Have you considered taking your driving skills on track, and going wheel-to-wheel? 2026 might be your year, as it’s never been easier and more affordable.
The Detroit Region is once again partnering with Waterford Hills to host a competition driving school. The 3-day school (only $495) will teach you everything you need to know to get on and off track successfully for your first race weekend and beyond! Track time is abundant (over 200 minutes) and quality student time with instructors is too! There is a 2-to-1 instructor to student ratio, so it’s like having your own coach.
No race car? No problem! There are many affordable options, starting around $2,250 for the weekend. The only choices you have to make are: front-wheel or rear-wheel drive, small or big bore, open or closed wheel? These arrive-and-drive rental options make it easy for you as they get the car to and from the track for you, and provide fuel, tires, on-track support and more. All you need is you gear and you already own the helmet!
This year drivers School is also an SCCA Alternative Driving School (ADS), providing a novice SCCA permit or a novice Waterford Hills Road Racing permit upon successful completion. Novice permits can be provided for both clubs if membership for both is obtained.
The school is help on the historic Waterford Hills road course; 1.5 miles of twists, turns, variable camber and elevation changes. There is an old adage: “If you can drive here, you can drive anywhere”.
The classroom session takes place the Friday April 24 and the on-track sessions are Saturday April 25 and Sunday April 26. You’ll be a different person Sunday evening!
