Competition Driving School – April 24-26

Have you considered taking your driving skills to the track and going wheel-to-wheel racing?

2026 might be your year—it’s never been easier or more affordable.

The Detroit Region is once again partnering with Waterford Hills to host a Competition Driving School. This 3-day school (only $495) will teach you everything you need to know to get on and off track successfully—and be competitive. Track time is abundant (over 200 minutes), and you’ll also get plenty of quality time with instructors. With a 2-to-1 student-to-instructor ratio, it’s like having your own personal coach.

No race car? No problem.

There are many affordable “arrive-and-drive” rental options, starting around $2,250 for a weekend. The only choices you need to make are: front- or rear-wheel drive, small or big bore, open- or closed-wheel. Arrive-and-drive programs make it easy—they handle transport to and from the track (no towing needed), and provide fuel, tires, mechanical support, hospitality, and more. All you need is your gear… and you probably already own a helmet!

Upon successful completion of the school, you’ll receive your novice permit and be eligible to race at dozens of tracks across the country. There are numerous arrive-and-drive providers near most tracks, so you can chase your racing dreams at iconic venues like Road America, Laguna Seca, Sebring, and Road Atlanta—or stay local at Gingerman, Grattan, Mid-Ohio, and of course, the most affordable and best place to cut your teeth: Waterford Hills. And don’t worry—this doesn’t mean giving up your current driving activities; it’s simply a way to add to them.

The school is held on the historic Waterford Hills road course in Clarkston, MI—a 1.5-mile circuit filled with twists, turns, variable camber, and elevation changes. Sir Stirling Moss drove here in the 1960s and famously said, “If you can drive here, you can drive anywhere.”

The classroom session takes place Friday, April 24, with on-track sessions on Saturday, April 25, and Sunday, April 26.

You’ll be a different person by Sunday evening.
