Great Lakes Division Rallycross Championship Series Announced

The Detroit, Ohio Valley and Western Ohio SCCA regions are pleased to announce the 2018 SCCA Great Lakes Division Rallycross Championship Series. This three-race challenge will crown individual class winners as well as an overall region as the Great Lakes Division Champion. Three events will be held in both Michigan and Northern/Southern Ohio in an effort to distribute the travel for all competitors:

  • Round #1: July 28-29th I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, MI hosted by DET region
  • Round #2: Sept 22-23rd Bitzer’s Farm in Greenfield, OH hosted by OVR & WOR regions
  • Round #3: Nov 17-18th Oakshade Raceway in Wauseon, OH hosted by DET region

While the challenge is a fight for bragging rights between the competing regions, we are encouraging camaraderie among all competitors. An onsite dinner on Saturday evening will be included with each entry and all three locations offer free onsite camping.  The divisional championship trophy for the winning region will be perpetual and awarded to the region with the most regional points at the end of the season.

The point system for determining the class and overall region winners is as follows: each racer finishing in the top 5 of their class is awarded points toward their quest to be the GLDiv class champion. Each racer finishing in the top 3 of their class is awarded points towards their region’s bid to be the GLDiv region champion.

  • Regional points awarded each race:  1st = 3pts, 2nd= 2pts, 3rd= 1pt
  • Class points awarded each race: 1st= 6pts, 2nd= 4pts, 3rd= 3pts, 4th = 2pts, 5th= 1pt

Each region will continue to use their own internal rules and point scoring towards the individual region championships at each event. However, for the GLDiv Championship the following supplemental rules will be in place:

  1. All runs count. No dropped runs.
  2. One timed re-run per day is allowed resulting from a de-beaded tire.
  3. The maximum (i.e. bogey) time for an individual run is 125% of the fastest run within the class run group. No DNF’s.  Example: Stock FWD class morning run, fastest car turns a time of 60.00 sec with any penalties included. The slowest time any competitor in stock fwd morning run may receive is “max 75.00” sec for each run.

More details about each event will be announced as we approach those dates. We are seeking a sponsors who are willing to fund and provide a 2018 GLDiv Challenge t-shirt for registered competitors as well as other promotional items.
