DRSCCA Alternative Driving School

Detroit Region SCCA Alternative Driver School

The SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) Alternative Drivers’ School (ADS) is a licensing program that allows drivers to earn a novice SCCA competition license through accredited, third-party racing schools or alternative programs instead of a traditional SCCA-hosted drivers’ school

It is designed for aspiring, wheel-to-wheel race car drivers who want to bypass or supplement the traditional SCCA driver education path to earn their novice competition permit.

Who is it for?

  • Aspiring Racers: Drivers looking to enter official wheel-to-wheel club racing but who may need a more flexible schedule or specific track access than what a standard SCCA weekend school provides.
  • Experienced Track Day Drivers: Those with existing high-performance driving (HPDE) or open-track experience looking to transition into sanctioned racing.
  • Drivers from Other Clubs: Individuals holding licenses in other organizations (such as Waterford Hills, NASA, or Bracket Enduro) who need an alternative path to earn their SCCA credentials.

If you have never driven on a track or have limited experience on one, then your best alternative is to participate in a multi-day sanctioned or accredited Competition Driving School

Summary of what your first steps in participating in Alternative Drivers’ School (ADS) can be found here:

Once you have read and understood all the required steps, then we can work with you in scheduling a driving instructor one-on-one or with a small group of drivers. The ground school instruction may occur prior to arriving at the track and the on-track observation may take place during a test day, SCCA CRE or Time Trial event.
